About the Orientation Program

THE OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY Orientation program is here to ease the transition to college by welcoming you to campus and the Delaware community through a busy schedule of both social and educational programs. Even before you arrive to campus, the OWU Orientation Team will be in contact with you making sure all your questions have been answered. It is our goal to introduce you to Ohio Wesleyan's campus, traditions, and expectations, but more importantly, to help you feel a part of the OWU community right away.

During Orientation 2012 students will participate in a variety of activities to assist them in becoming more familiar in handling the issues they encounter during the transition to college life. Each day students will participate in  small group meetings with Orientation Leaders, but will also have the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor, and get connected where they live during residence hall floor meetings. Outside of their small groups, students will have the chance to learn about getting involved at OWU with campus organizations and activities. At the conclusion of each busy day there are social activities ranging from the world-renowned magician, Norman Ng to a Casino Night, and receptions with current student groups.

We also have programs specifically for parents/family. Informational sessions will be offered on Thursday, but are optional to attend. However, on Thursday afternoon Convocation is a special event that family members will not want to miss! This event is one of only two times (the other being graduation) when the entire class of 2015 will be together in one place. Convocation is a ceremony celebrating the start of the academic year which features professors dressed in full regalia; speeches by Ohio Wesleyan President, Rock Jones, president of Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs (OWU’s student government), and others. The next day of activities begins with separate options for students and parents/families; however Friday afternoon official goodbyes are said as the rest of the Orientation is designed for new students only.

The busy schedules continues through the weekend for new students, but Orientation doesn't end there! Ohio Wesleyan University celebrates the beginning of each academic year with Bishop Week, which begins on Monday, August 27 and ends on Saturday, September 1st.  During this week events are offered to the entire campus community including afternoon and eventing activities, presentations and of course delicious food!

We are glad you have chosen Ohio Wesleyan University and we look forward to meeting you on Thursday, August 23, 2012 for Orientation!

*Convocation will be streamed on the OWU website for those family members who are unable to attend.
