About the Orientation Program

THE OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY Orientation program is here to ease the transition to college and welcome you to campus and the Delaware community. Even before you move into your residence hall, the OWU Orientation Team will be in contact with you, making sure to answer all your questions. It's our goal to introduce you to Ohio Wesleyan's campus, traditions, and expectations and to help you feel a part of the community right away. And there's an Orientation for parents too!

Student activities include small group meetings with Orientation Leaders, an academic advisor meeting, and residence hall floor meetings. Throughout Orientation you will become familiar with campus organizations and activities, Greek Life, and how to handle the issues new students encounter as they transition to college life.

However, the best part about Orientation are the evening programs. Every night there are several programs to choose from. Like magic? Then come see world renowned magician Norman Ng. Like to gamble - not for money of course? Then join us for Casino Night as we transform the Benes Rooms into a working casino with pizza tasting and hundred of dollars of prizes to win! Or do you just want to relax and talk with friends? Then go to Coffee House, listen to acoustic music all while enjoying coffee.

Parent activities include opportunities to meet faculty and staff, as well as special seminars with topics ranging from financial aid and graduation requirements to career services, student health issues, and community standards and expectations. Parents will also enjoy the Parent Breakfast, which is a great opportunity to mingle with other parents and OWU staff. Parents are not expected to stay for the entire Orientation program; after lunch on Friday the program is truly designed for students.

Events of interest to both parents and students include Convocation, one of only two times (the other being graduation) when the entire class will be together in one place.. Convocation is a ceremony celebrating the start of the academic year and featuring professors dressed in full regalia; speeches by the president of Ohio Wesleyan, president of Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs (WCSA, OWU's student government), and others; and a showcase of the musical talent of our incoming students.

Orientation doesn't end on Sunday afternoon. Members of the Orientation Team will be in contact throughout the entire fall semester, working to ensure that your entry into college life is as comfortable as possible. The Orientation program officially concludes with the First-Year Student Festival held in mid-November.
